Course overview
The Finance and Sustainability course is a taught option module of the core undergraduate geography degree at Oxford. The course provides a foundational knowledge in the origins, geographies, emerging theories and practices, and central debates in sustainable finance. It will arm students with sufficient understanding to navigate and critically analyse the key aspects and developments in sustainable finance.
Course structure and content
The BA in Geography is offered as a full-time three-year undergraduate degree. This Finance and Sustainability course is an option module offered to second- and third-year students. The course takes place over one term, and includes eight two-hour lectures, and four small-group tutorials.
Teaching and assessment
The Finance and Sustainability option is taught by academics within the Oxford Sustainable Finance Programme, and external experts also invited to give guest lectures. The undergraduate course is designed around small class sizes and tutorial-style teaching, to maximise engagement between students and leading academics. Students will be expected to produce tutorial essays throughout the course, with oral and written feedback from the tutors. Formal assessment will take place through a 4500-word extended essay and a 3-hour written Finals Honour School examination. Students are expected to engage critically with key debates and literature within the field of sustainable finance.

Career opportunities
An undergraduate geography degree gives you flexibility when it comes to deciding on your career. Many of our students are successful in pursuing careers directly related to their geographical knowledge (such as in development work or environmental management). Many others use the range of transferable skills we teach to move into fields such as management consultancy, local and central government, conservation and heritage management, the law, the media, teaching and research. This Finance and Sustainability module would give students the basic knowledge to pursue graduate roles in sustainable finance.
